Bloom where you are planted

When I look at my surroundings I am pleased to see the sunny skies of Florida and the lush greenery. Yet, I know that the peace of God has been a great comfort to me. It would be easy to get discouraged because I do not drive and many days I am stuck here in this apartment complex.

But, I figure if the Lord planted me here; then I will bloom where I am planted. Looking at myself I see a middle aged woman with several issues that cause restraint in the way I live. The meds for thyroid and epilepsy have side effects. Short term memory, speech difficulties, tiredness etc. Yet, when I look at Jesus I can see He has a wonderful life planned out.

We have a gym here at this complex and it's a great place to meet and laugh with people. It's a place to be myself yet inspire others to see the joy of the Father. I'm too uncoordinated to do a lot of excersize, but I am able to do some things and I get help from the neighbors too. God has given this woman favor in the eyes of strangers, as I witness for Him in my every day life.

The pool area is a great place to chit chat about everyday issues. I find people from all walks of life cooling off and wanting a safe person to talk to as well. The subjects are ranging from sin, to sex, to recipes, politics and religion. I don't have all the answers and I don't need to. I speak when the Lord gives me utterance.

I am not equipped with anything but the love of God. I'm no great theologian. I try to be very simple and non threatening. I never try to debate with high intellects. Yet, I've encouraged some great intellects to look to Christ for answers.

Some days the depression hits for a while. But, it is only a reminder of my humaness. It gives me pause to remember that others around me get hit with things... without Christ. So, I will bless the Lord at all times. Blooming where I am planted.

Hearing the voice of God

Can you hear that quiet voice on a soft summer breeze
It is my Master who is calling and it's His face I see
His arms open wide and I wander swiftly in
Right in His arms, I heart the heartbeats within

Some say they cannot hear the voice of the living Lord
Yet I hear it every day as I listen and observe
It's soft and gentle and flows on the wind
Yet it speaks in volumnes to the spirit within

No human being can ever hope to hear
The voice of the Master,
with only the human ear
No, it's with the heart I hear Him you see
He comes to caress the very heart of me

He's more than just a swear word
He's the precious son of God
You think I am a fool perhaps
Or that I am very odd

No matter what your thinking, I do not really care
For I can hear the Master's voice and it is always there

I pray you stop and listen, not with your ears alone
But listen with your spirit man place your intellect on hold
He will always speak to you if your progammed to receive
Just relax and look to Him, and remember to believe

Shermie's new look

Living in an apartment complex can be fun at times. Shermie receives many gifts from parting neighbors. Just last week Shermie inherited about 10 plants and an outdoor ceiling fan. Weez waited impatiently as Sherm put together the fan and hooked it up. The Florida breezes are slim on hot summer days and this fan made life on the patio much nicer.

The plants however were a nusiance for Weezy. She is claustrophobic and clutter makes her edgy. Yet, Shermie is happy with his new projects. Each day he repots an old plant and hangs plants around the patio. Some plants are for friends at church.

Meanwhile, they now posess six old milk crates and several odds and ends pots that are heaped into a corner of the tiny patio. There is a messy look to the place that gives the onlooker the idea that Shermie and Weezy are very messy people.

In another week it will look very pretty. That is what Shermie keeps promising. Meanwhile, Weezy sits in her lounge chair looking at the jungle. "This makes Shermie happy." she tells herself. "He loves a pet project" she reminds herself.

Then a small voice says..."Behold, I make all things new."

'Well, hurry up will ya?' Weezy prays as she sits on the crowded messy patio.

Yet, she knows you can't hurry God any more than you can hurry her husband. The end will be nice. She hopes.

The bible says to walk

Sometimes as I work out on my treadmill I feel like I’m not getting where I want to be fast enough. I’m only walking after all. Then, I realized that walking is a word that is used all over the bible. I see where it says in Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.”

The Psalmist wrote about walking many times. Psalm 1:1 says “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.”
Psalm 23 “Even though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death…..”
In Mark 2:9 it says ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’
I John 1:7 “if we walk in the light…”
2John 1:6 “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.”

Now, I was joking as I was referring to my treadmill walk. That walk is purely for physical reasons. Yet, the walk that God talks about is so much more important. I do not find a passage in the bible that says to be spiritual or find your inner peace. Yet, I do see where the Lord spoke in Genesis to Abram who was later called ‘Abraham’. Genesis 17:1 “When Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless.”
We are called to be a holy people. Set apart. We are called to walk the walk of a Christian in good times and in bad. If we run through life going from thrill to thrill we will miss the walk. When we are in a place that isn’t where God wants us, we will always run to places that will fill a void. Yet, we are called to walk a blameless life before God. If the going seems to slow, look up. Let him keep your pace.

Tell them NOW, before they are gone

In church yesterday I recieved a note from my friend Marie. Her heart was broken as she told of her friend who had died and she wasn't sure if she went to heaven. "Could you please put this on the internet?" she asked. I didn't say anything, just folded the note and put it in my purse.

This is the note:
Dear Sue,
I am thinking of you and praying for you. You were a good friend and had a heart of gold. I love you girl.
Marie....God bless you

It's so sad not to know if our friends pass over from this life to the next and not know for sure if they are in heaven. I remember clearly the day my friend passed away. Her name was also Sue. Yet, it was a good thing to know that Sue had given her heart to Jesus. There was no gray areas of doubt about where she is today.

I have two messages in this short post.
If you want to know for sure if you are going to heaven, read John 3:16. 'For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth on him shall be saved." KJV

The other message is this...tell your friends now. After they are gone is too late to pray for them. Tell them now, tell the truth in love. If you love someone tell them now. Tomorrow might not be here for them.

What about homosexuals?

Recently some friends and I sat around talking and the subject of homosexuality came up. One of my friends took the stand that she has friends who are gay and they are wonderful people. “It’s up to them how they live their life. I love them.”

I was reminded of how Jesus spoke to the people who were considered sinners in bible days. He spent most of his time with them. Yet, he never compromised who he was or what His Father’s words said. He loved them enough to tell them the truth.

The words of the bible are very clear to all who follow Christ. The ‘Great Commission’

Matthew 28:18-20 ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Mark 16:15-16 ‘He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.’

Jesus wasn’t one to stop at the notion…’it’s up to them’. It’s true we have a will and our choice decides whether we spend eternity in hell or heaven. But, Jesus wanted his followers to go and be ambassadors for him. To represent him to all who were perishing. Does that mean we should sit back and do nothing?

But wait, we have a way of focusing on particular issues here. The one thing that always bothers me is that we sometimes use a sin sliding scale to measure off what sins are worse than others. There is no difference to God between the thief and the homosexual. No difference to God between the whore and the liar.

I Corinthians 6:9-10 says this…’Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.’.

Many times people think that the bible only speaks to men on this subject. But the very word homosexual is not a male word. I found this in the dictionary.

Main Entry: 1ho•mo•sex•u•al
Pronunciation: \ˌhō-mə-ˈsek-sh(ə-)wəl, -ˈsek-shəl\
Function: adjective
Date: 1892
1 : of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex
2 : of, relating to, or involving sexual intercourse between persons of the same sex
— ho•mo•sex•u•al•ly adverb

The Lord loved us so much that He spoke the truth to us. I am sure he spoke what it says in Leviticus 18:22 “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman” He spoke it in love, not hate crimes. People followed Jesus everywhere he went. What sinner would want to spend time with someone unless they saw him as loving? There is something special about Jesus. He loves with such a passion but speaks the truth.

As Christians we should be like magnets, drawing people to the love of Jesus that they see in us. We can not love others unless we ourselves are filled with the love of Christ though. We first must empty ourselves of pride and our own opinions and be filled with the Holy Spirit of God to finally see others through the eyes of Jesus. When we see through those eyes we have a love for others that compels us to reach out with the good news of Jesus Christ.

If we point the finger and blurt out scriptures to unbelievers we are only burying a live sinner under condemnation. When we speak the truth in love though….it could set them free. Genuine love for the person is
I Corinthians 13: 4 ‘Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…’ Verse 13 goes on to say this ‘And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.’

It is not loving to sit back and say nothing when a sinner is on his way to hell. It is not loving to point fingers and bang them over the head with scripture either. We speak the truth in love. We do not speak as one who is superior but as one who has been forgiven themselves. It is not loving to turn your back and not associate with a sinner. Jesus didn’t do that. It’s not loving to try to harm anyone physically because they are in sin.

Our part is to pray, to listen to the Holy Spirit telling us when to speak and what to speak. Our part is to love them enough to speak when told to.

We as Christians can’t do anything according to our own opinions on religion. No one can. We can’t make God fit into our opinions. Our opinions on homosexuality have to be based on what the word of God says.

A Christian is one who follows Christ. If we really follow Him, we will obey Him. Not just parts of the bible but all of it. It’s not a pick and choose thing. Christians are given the ‘Great Commission’ and we are told to speak the truth in love. We as Christians need to always remember that we are being watched. How we live our lives speak volumes. The words we speak and how we speak them are important. Spice your words with truth and serve them in love. If they are rejected just remember that Christ himself was rejected. But, wait and listen to what He wants you to do and say. It could be just to pray as he leads someone else to speak. But, we are never called upon to do nothing.

The Eyes of Jesus

When Holy eyes look into mine
I can never turn away
My willful flesh may run at times
But He looks as if to say

"Come close to me, I'm drawing you near"
I'm shaken to the core
When at last I dare look up
My flesh can take no more

Whenever I meet Him face to face
It's just His eyes I see
Eyes of a liquid firey gaze
He always captures me

I know I see a twinkle too
He knows I'll never get far
For I've seen His eyes and it's no use
It's His eyes that capture my heart

"Come back to me, I'm drawing you near"
I'm shaken to the core
When at last I dare look up
My flesh can take no more

My heart can barely beat as I stare
Into eyes so rich with love
No words can I speak, I'm fozen there
In eyes of liquid love

My mindless thoughts just drift away
Lost in just a token
Of love's desire sent my way
Still, no words are spoken

He knows how frail my heart can be
I melt as wax before Him
Yet still some times my flesh roams free
"Come on now, just ignore Him"

He sets His eyes in front of mine
My full attention is on Him
I see the love that I know is mine
Those eyes that make me adore Him

My heart can barely beat as I stare
Into eyes so rich with love
No words spoken, I'm frozen there
In those firey eyes of love

Do you know where you are going?

Sherm decided to take the long way home after a pleasant drive through neighborhoods he and Weez had never seen. 'Guess it's time to go home for supper.', he said finally.

Weez watched the scenery as her husband drove. After a while she noticed that they had been driving for a long time. All she saw was unfamiliar highway. 'Are we lost?'she said.

Sherm was quiet a bit then replied. 'I must have taken a wrong turn but don't worry.'

Weez looked at the gas gauge going to low. Rather than nag her husband she focused on the pretty houses and trees. The sun was shining through the huge oaks and the palm trees were swaying in the afternoon seabreeze. They weren't far from the ocean.

After Sherm had sighed for six or seven times, Weez asked 'Do you want to stop and get directions?'

'No, I don't need help.'he replied. Weez settled back and said a silent prayer to get them home safe.

A few moments later Sherm spotted something familiar. He pulled to the left and began to drive toward their home. "See, I told you we weren't lost. Only you were lost."

Weez rolled her eyes and said. 'I may not always know where I'm going but at least I know who I'm following. I've been praying that you'd find a landmark to get us home.'

Sherm laughed as he drove. 'Good one Weez'!

Calling All Titus Women!!!

As I walked to the library one day, I ran into a neighbor who wanted to talk. She is a stay at home housewife like me. Her biggest problem is that she doesn't know how to entertain herself. She has a baby and is overwhelmed and restless. I listened as she c/o housework, budgets, poor self esteem. I was reminded of the apostle Paul who spoke to the women of Titus. Titus 2:3-4 says ‘Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.’
She told how her husband worked long hours and left her alone. She told how he was tired and not wanting to help her. Slowly I explained a positive angle and the fun it was to get rid of clutter and make the home a friendly environment while clutter causes stress. [She knows I'm a Christian] Next, the shopping can be a creative fun thing when you look at what you have to spend and work to achieve the most with what you have. I went over a Proverbs 31 woman and how 'Beauty is fading and charm is deceptive but a woman who fears God is worthy to be praised’ I told her of some fun things I used to do with my 2 babies. We discussed how I love to spend a time just to do my hair, make up, nails, etc. Outer beauty. Next, inner beauty. She asked what I meant.
I realized this girl was interested in what I was saying. I explained how God changes us women from the inside out when we look to Him for guidance. She had heard the term of ‘washing with the word’.
As she relaxed she asked me the age old question…’What do you do with your time?’ This time I smiled and explained that I work out my schedule according to what the Lord holds in front of me. Sometimes I’m outdoors with neighbors, sometimes inside cleaning or cooking. I told her of my days as a young mom. ‘That’s the same as what I’m doing. Picking up one mess after another. I gave her some useful tips I’d learned from the ‘Titus women’ in my own life.
‘Above all things, take your troubles to the Lord all during the day. A word here, a sentence there, a cry for help, a thank you and praise throughout the day. Remember to say thank you to your spouse even if he does not deserve it. Be an encourager. It’s a full time job being a housewife and many have given up and went to other places for a fast escape. But I don’t see you as a quitter.’ She smiled at that.
I grinned back at her. ‘I have to warn you, the job changes from moment to moment and some times it’s downright awful, but the rewards are plentiful and the peaces of knowing you are in God’s will never leaves you drained.’
I’ve spoken to this woman many times. I’ve even met her husband. Did I change the world? Nah, I just reiterated what someone else probably all ready told her. Yet, a Godly woman can always be a world changer if she is a God chaser!
